Manager, External Communications

About the role

The Manager, External Communications will partner with the Team Lead of External and Brand Communications to raise SPH Media’s visibility, reputation, and stakeholder engagement. You will shape narratives, manage media relations, and deliver high‑quality external communications that align with the organisation’s brand and strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as primary contact for media queries, interviews, and story development; prepare media invites, releases, Q&As and statements.
• Monitor media coverage, sentiment trends and emerging issues; build relationships with key media outlets to secure positive coverage.
• Develop and execute external communications strategies supporting organisational objectives, announcements and campaigns.
• Draft and oversee production of media releases, speeches, corporate statements and other external‑facing materials.
• Provide communications counsel to internal stakeholders to ensure coherent external engagement.
• Support crisis communications by developing escalation protocols, holding statements and rapid‑response messaging.
• Create compelling content, collaborate with creative, digital and social teams for integrated storytelling.
• Track and analyse media coverage and campaign performance; deliver insights to refine communication strategies.

Required profile

• Proven experience in media relations, public relations or external communications.
• Demonstrated ability to manage issues and crisis communications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on narrative building.
• Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams (creative, digital, social).
• Analytical mindset for measuring media impact and providing data‑driven recommendations.
