Manager, Sales Engineering

About the role

Checkout.com is seeking a Manager, Sales Engineering to lead technical engagement with merchants, guiding them from initial contact through solution design, integration and go‑live. The role sits within the Commercial team and works closely with Account Executives to win new business and ensure successful payment implementations.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the Commercial team to position Checkout.com’s products and services and help close deals.
• Understand merchant technical requirements, map them to APIs, create solution designs and internal documentation.
• Deliver demos, build payment flow prototypes, develop proofs‑of‑concept and customised presentations.
• Lead all technical interactions with merchants, including calls, meetings and workshops, until the deal is won.
• Support the BID Management team with RFP and RFI responses.
• Provide feedback to product and commercial teams based on market and merchant insights.
• Stay up‑to‑date with industry standards, payment regulations and emerging technologies.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience as a Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, Pre‑Sales Consultant or Implementation Engineer.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven ability to work in a fast‑paced, customer‑focused, target‑driven environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Chinese, able to engage both technical and business stakeholders.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to analyse logs, API responses and test results.

Required skills

• API integration experience (REST/JSON, Postman).
• Front‑end development knowledge (JavaScript, React, Angular).
• Back‑end development knowledge (Java.NET, Python, Node.js).
• Payments technologies such as 3DS, network tokenisation, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Open Banking.
• Understanding of payment flow, fraud‑prevention, tokenisation and payment schemes.
• Familiarity with PSD2/PSD3, FCA regulations, ISO‑8583.
• Experience with RFI/RFP processes.
