Materials Project Manager – Engineering & Sourcing

About the role

Applied Materials is a global leader in materials engineering solutions for semiconductor and display manufacturing. The Materials Project Manager will forecast and communicate engineering, materials, and manufacturing requirements, coordinate sourcing activities, and manage material change control to support product development and production.

Key responsibilities

• Forecast and communicate engineering, materials, and manufacturing requirements to suppliers.
• Perform make‑versus‑buy analysis and provide input to outsourcing decisions.
• Coordinate demand signals through MRP to minimize inventory exposure.
• Lead the Materials Core Team and manage product development deliverables across buyers, planners, and production control.
• Collaborate with engineering to interpret requirements and create new project material strategies.
• Assist in supplier price and delivery negotiations and, when authorized, negotiate contracts.
• Execute supplier selection, risk assessment, and performance monitoring (delivery, quality, cost).
• Manage materials change control, cost objectives, and quality issue resolution; publish key process indicators and track landed cost targets.

Required profile

• Demonstrated conceptual and practical expertise in materials engineering and related disciplines.
• Knowledge of best practices and how materials sourcing integrates with engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions.
• Ability to lead small projects, solve complex problems, and make judgments based on multiple information sources.
• Strong interpersonal skills to explain sensitive information, build consensus, and partner with quality and engineering teams.
