Medical Laboratory Technologist - Point of Care Testing

About the role

NHG is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technologist to support Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) across its hospital. The role ensures that POCT is accurate, reliable and always ready when patients need it, covering device operations, data transmission, quality assurance and accreditation support.

Key responsibilities

• Keep POCT devices running smoothly and efficiently in the hospital
• Monitor the centralised POCT data managers and the connectivity between POCT devices and the Lab Information System (LIS)
• Ensure POCT data is accurately sent to the LIS and the hospital's electronic medical record system
• Plan and build interfaces for interfaced and non-interfaced devices
• Liaise with internal and external staff to resolve POCT issues and help set up new POCT sites with vendors and users
• Maintain quality assurance programmes: track POCT quality indicators, run regular internal audits of POCT sites, evaluate and set up devices before they go to sites, and train key operators on device and workflow competency
• Support accreditation and licensing inspections (e.g. MOH, CAP) and follow up on inspection and audit reports so corrective actions are completed

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Life Sciences or an equivalent qualification
• At least 2 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Biochemistry and/or Haematology in a clinical laboratory; prior POCT experience is a strong advantage
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to communicate clearly with clinical staff and external vendors
• Organised, able to manage multiple priorities across hospital sites, and able to train and guide others

Schedule is office hours, Monday to Friday with alternate Saturdays (AM); candidates with extensive experience may be considered for senior roles.
