Multi-skilled Therapy Assistant (ANDS)

About the role

The Therapy Assistant joins the Adult NeuroDevelopmental Service (ANDS) to deliver therapeutic interventions and activities for its patients. The role sits within the Occupational Therapy department and involves supporting patients' daily living, communication and social skills.

Key responsibilities

• Observe patients on the ward using behaviour methods such as ABC charts, frequency monitoring and the Setting Event Checklist, and note communication styles and activities of daily living.
• Deliver prescribed sensory, behavioural and communication strategies with selected patients.
• Train, supervise and help maintain patients' functional skills in basic activities of daily living, community living, social and recreational participation.
• Build individualised resources, assist improvement projects and make therapy materials such as communication passports and activity visuals, and take photos of new patients.
• Act as a communication partner with patients, including intensive interaction.
• Work with allied health professionals on ward-based programmes and transitions to community care, including portering for activities.
• Attend recommended trainings and courses, including on-the-job training and inservices.
• Complete daily documentation and get it co-signed by clinical supervisors by the end of the day.
• Follow infection control guidelines and complete other assigned tasks.

Required profile

• NITEC or Higher NITEC in Paramedic & Emergency Care, Community Care & Social Services or Nursing, with at least 2 years of related work experience.
• Diploma in Health Sciences, sports, physical health or another related discipline.
• Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills, a passion for working with patients and a good learning attitude.
• Experience with persons with intellectual disability and/or autism spectrum disorders is preferred.
