Optometrist (Maternity Cover)

About the role

Woodlands Hospital is seeking an optometrist to cover maternity leave (ML) for a period of 22 weeks (Dec 26 to Apr 27) or 21 weeks (Jan 27 to May 27). The role covers ophthalmic services needed for the diagnosis and treatment of ocular conditions, including clinical care, training and education, research and quality, and management and leadership. Candidates must be registered with the Optometrists and Opticians Board (OOB), Singapore, with a full license.

Key responsibilities

• Provide optometric assessments such as refraction, visual acuity, colour vision, visual field, endothelial cell count, corneal pachymetry and bandage contact lens fitting, and subspecialty services such as ultrasonography, refractive surgery clinic, OPEC, eye screening and reading centre.
• Maintain consistent standards of care, document patient assessments and management plans, and manage patient workload and coverage.
• Practice safely, act promptly on feedback, and help implement safety improvements.
• Supervise and mentor staff and trainees, coach new staff, and supervise final-year students.
• Deliver training and education to staff and the public, and help plan continuing education programmes.
• Take part in quality improvement, research projects and data collection, and help write abstracts, posters and presentations.
• Help manage services and resources, lead department workgroups and take part in department projects.

Required profile

• Minimum diploma in Optometry.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Optometry; courses in relevant clinical disciplines preferred.
• Registered with OOB, Singapore, with a full or provisional practicing license.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, dedication and willingness to learn.
• Professional appearance and proper workplace grooming.
