Palliative Care Consultant – Specialist Role

About the role

The Palliative Care Consultant provides specialist, patient‑centred palliative care across inpatient, outpatient and community settings. The role integrates palliative principles into general medical services, builds multidisciplinary capacity, and advances the institution’s palliative care strategy in line with national priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver complex symptom management, goals‑of‑care discussions and end‑of‑life care consultations.
• Provide clinical leadership, mentorship and education to junior doctors and the palliative care team.
• Design and deliver structured education programmes on palliative care, communication and end‑of‑life management.
• Lead development, review and implementation of clinical policies, pathways and SOPs.
• Drive quality‑improvement initiatives, audits and outcome measurement related to end‑of‑life care.
• Support accreditation, regulatory and governance compliance.
• Contribute to service model design, integration with community partners, and strategic planning for geriatric and sub‑acute populations.

Required profile

• Basic Medical Degree and postgraduate qualifications registrable with the Singapore Medical Council.
• Advanced specialist training in palliative medicine (required).
• Passionate commitment to caring for patients at the end of life and those with complex physical, psycho‑emotional and social needs.
