Principal Medical Laboratory Scientist

About the role

Woodlands Health (WH) is recruiting a Principal Medical Laboratory Scientist for its laboratory within the allied health family. The role involves managing a team or section of the laboratory, or taking responsibility across the laboratory in areas such as occupational health and safety, quality management, training or service delivery. The Principal may sit on the laboratory management team, implement organisational and departmental policies and oversee the total test process (pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical).

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute programmes that meet organisational goals and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with hospital clinicians to deliver a service that meets their needs.
• Manage staffing and related personnel matters.
• Plan and oversee the physical design of the laboratory to maximise staff and resource use.
• Plan, implement and manage an effective quality assurance scheme and ensure accreditation requirements are met.
• Develop and enforce laboratory safety policies, oversee the Hazardous Materials Control Plan and ensure staff follow safety precautions.
• Keep all permits and licences up to date.
• Hold regular meetings with section heads and co-develop strategic plans with the Head of Department Laboratory Medicine and Allied Health to improve productivity, performance and quality.
• Take part in departmental and hospital meetings, prepare reports and evaluation papers, and join quality improvement and community outreach programmes.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Medical Technology.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience.
• Board certification preferred.
• Supervisory experience.
• Ability to lead, inspire and motivate staff.
