Production Engineer

About the role

The Production Engineer acts as a technical resource for Operations personnel in the plant, applying technical skills to optimise plant operations, resolve technical and operational problems and enable safe, efficient, reliable and compliant production of quality products. The role drives change implementation and continuous improvement through collaboration with Maintenance, Quality and HSE teams.

Key responsibilities

• Follow approved procedures and IMS documents, stop work if a procedure is incorrect or unsafe, and report issues through the Management of Change (MOC) process.
• Monitor critical production parameters and safety alarms, investigate deviations and keep the Production Manager informed.
• Serve as local expert for the assigned product line or process, troubleshoot operations and analyse process deviations.
• Establish and track daily KPIs for safety, process performance, quality and productivity, and act on performance gaps.
• Design and manage small to medium capital projects, and lead or attend major interventions such as major PMs, upgrades and start-ups.
• Build operating discipline, create and update SOPs and work instructions, and drive MOC from initiation to closure.
• Be available on call nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science (BS) or above in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in process, production or project engineering, preferably in high-purity specialty chemicals, food, nuclear, semiconductor or pharmaceutical plants.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken.
• Ability to learn technical chemical processes quickly in a fast-paced environment.

Required skills

• Reading and interpreting P&ID diagrams.
• Root cause investigation and process hazard analysis (LOPA, HAZOP preferred).
• Working knowledge of PLC and process automation (preferred).
• Six Sigma Green or Black Belt or equivalent (preferred).
• 5S and Lean Manufacturing experience (preferred).
• Experience with highly hazardous chemicals and micro-contamination control best practices (preferred).
