Research Associate (AI for Nature Based Climate Solutions)

About the role

The Yanyan Cheng research group at NTU’s School of Applied Earth Sciences (ASE) is seeking a Research Associate to contribute to a Singapore Ministry of Education funded project on AI‑driven nature‑based climate solutions. The role involves advancing integrated assessment modelling to understand interactions among land, water, carbon, energy, climate, ecosystems and human systems, with a one‑year renewable appointment.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, curate, validate, and document large‑scale multimodal ecohydrological remote sensing datasets.
• Train and evaluate models on large datasets and high‑performance computing systems; establish reproducible baselines, ablation studies, and evaluation suites.
• Apply the developed datasets and models to monitor and analyse tropical ecohydrological processes.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in information and communication engineering or a related field.
• Research experience in 3D point‑cloud or point‑cloud sequence processing and a strong publication record in top venues.
• Demonstrated expertise in remote sensing and computer vision, with experience in scientific writing and peer‑reviewed publications.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage large datasets and codebases, and meet project deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and MATLAB.
• Experience with deep‑learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Remote sensing data processing and computer‑vision techniques, including 3D point‑cloud processing.
• Linux environment and high‑performance computing skills.
