Research Engineer (Trust Research)

About the role

IMDA is leading Singapore's drive to become a world-leading Digital Economy, and its BizTech Group drives innovation in emerging technologies such as robotics and quantum communications. This Research Engineer position sits in the Advanced Intelligence Software Systems (AISS) division, which researches frontier technologies and develops advanced software systems. You will research and build technical capabilities to strengthen the safety, security and trustworthiness of AI systems, including robotics and embodied AI.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct hands-on research into the safety, security and trustworthiness of robotics and embodied AI systems, identifying emerging risks, vulnerabilities and failure modes through experimentation.
• Design and develop proofs of concept, experiments and technical tools to investigate risks and demonstrate safeguards and mitigations.
• Translate research findings into technical guidance, test methods and tools that support technology development and inform policy and regulatory work.
• Support cybersecurity governance of internal technology products, working with product and engineering teams to identify security risks and define security requirements and safeguards throughout the product lifecycle.
• Conduct or support security assessments and threat modelling of internal products and systems, working with cybersecurity specialists where needed.
• Communicate research results through technical papers, articles, presentations, demonstrations and international research forums.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or a related technical discipline.
• Strong foundation in computer systems, with hands-on experience building, testing or analysing technical systems.
• Able to research problems with no well-defined solution: formulate hypotheses, design experiments, build prototypes and analyse results.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to identify system failures and vulnerabilities and develop technical mitigations.
• Able to explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders through reports, papers, presentations and demonstrations.
