Research Fellow - Asymmetric Transition Metal Catalysis

About the role

The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) at Nanyang Technological University is recruiting a Research Fellow in asymmetric transition metal catalysis. The Zhong Group develops new transition metal catalysts for novel organic transformations, and the successful candidate will join a team focused on transition metal catalysis, asymmetric catalysis and organic methodology. The fellow contributes to stereoselective catalytic transformations using the group's chiral catalyst library, conducts independent research, mentors junior researchers and helps disseminate findings through publications and presentations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and data analysis in asymmetric transition metal catalysis and organic methodology.
• Develop stereoselective catalytic transformations using the group's chiral catalyst library.
• Design and perform synthetic organic chemistry experiments and evaluate catalytic reaction outcomes.
• Mentor junior researchers and guide them on laboratory techniques and research activities.
• Maintain laboratory safety standards and support day-to-day laboratory operations.
• Present research progress at group meetings and project reviews.
• Prepare reports and organise research results for scientific publications.

Required profile

• PhD in Organic Chemistry or a related field.
• Research experience in synthetic organic chemistry and/or asymmetric catalysis gained through PhD and/or postdoctoral training.
• Expertise in transition metal catalysis, asymmetric catalysis and organic methodology.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and scientific writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.

Required skills

• NMR, mass spectrometry, chiral GC/HPLC, polarimetry, IR and UV/Vis spectroscopy.
• Handling air-sensitive compounds using Schlenk techniques and/or glovebox operations.
