Research Fellow, Family Business

About the role

The International Institute for Management Development (IMD) is seeking a Research Fellow to strengthen its thought leadership on Asian family businesses. Working primarily with the Peter Lorange Chair in Family Business and other senior faculty, the fellow will conduct applied research that bridges academic rigor and practical impact.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute mixed‑method studies with family‑owned enterprises across Asia.
• Produce scholarly articles for FT50 and other top‑tier journals.
• Develop case studies and practitioner‑oriented reports for IMD’s executive education and advisory services.
• Translate research findings into tools and frameworks that support governance, succession, innovation and internationalisation.
• Collaborate with faculty, researchers and external partners to disseminate insights through publications, events and learning platforms.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent research experience in family business, entrepreneurship or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous qualitative and quantitative research.
• Strong publication record or clear plan to publish in high‑impact journals.
• Experience with Asian family business contexts is preferred.
• Excellent academic writing and communication skills.
