Research Fellow – Synthetic Biology & Enzyme Design

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to advance synthetic biology and enzyme design at the School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University. The role involves developing novel biocatalysts and synthetic pathways using cutting‑edge methodologies.

Key responsibilities

• Design, construct, and optimise synthetic biological systems and enzyme‑engineering workflows.
• Perform molecular biology techniques such as DNA manipulation, PCR and molecular cloning.
• Express, purify and characterise proteins using spectrophotometry, HPLC and SDS‑PAGE.
• Analyse experimental data, maintain detailed records and contribute to manuscript preparation for high‑impact journals.

Required profile

• PhD (completed or near completion) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Synthetic Biology or a related discipline.
• Strong expertise in molecular cloning, protein engineering and synthetic biology tools (e.g., CRISPR, metabolic pathway design).
• Ability to work independently, solve complex problems and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced research environment.
