Resident Physician I

About the role

The Resident Physician I provides day‑to‑day supervision of hospital wards, ensuring high‑quality patient care while developing clinical expertise. This position also involves teaching junior medical staff and participating in emergency and on‑call duties.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise ward operations, including patient assessment, diagnosis, and clinical management.
• Teach and mentor House Officers, Medical Officers, and trainees.
• Handle all cold referrals not assigned to a specific consultant.
• Attend urgent referrals during night duty and inform the on‑call consultant of complex cases.
• Conduct night ward rounds and be available outside regular hours when on call.
• Draft and sign consultation referral letters in emergency situations.
• Compile confidential mortality reports for the Medical Board.
• Represent the ward or hospital at coroner’s inquests and medico‑legal hearings.
• Participate in departmental rounds, teaching seminars, and case conferences.
• In surgical specialties, perform elective and emergency operations within permitted complexity and teach basic operative procedures to Medical Officers.
• Maintain specialty knowledge and contribute to continuous learning.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the Head of Department or Medical Board.

Required profile

• Medical degree with eligibility for residency training.
• Strong diagnostic and clinical management acumen.
• Enthusiasm for teaching and knowledge improvement.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaborate with senior staff.
