Senior / Executive / Engineer, System Development (Back Office)

About the role

This is a Software System Engineer position within the back-office development team. You will contribute to the software modernisation of the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) backend system supporting Singapore's public transport network, designing, migrating, building, testing, deploying and supporting secure and reliable applications on AWS in the Government on Commercial Cloud (GCC) environment.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse requirements, design, develop, test and maintain applications.
• Prepare and maintain software lifecycle deliverables such as requirements, architecture and design documents, interface specifications, source code, testing specifications, operations and maintenance and training manuals, in line with the Authority's standards.
• Troubleshoot production and test-environment issues, investigate defects and improve application quality and performance.
• Collaborate with developers, users and testers to clarify requirements and resolve design or testing issues.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline.
• At least three years of software development experience, including one full SDLC and related documentation.
• Hands-on development and support of Java applications using Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Experience with AWS services such as Amazon EKS, DynamoDB and RDS.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Medical declaration and/or further assessment may be required during shortlisting.

Required skills

• Modern Java, preferably Java 21 or later.
• Containerised applications, Kubernetes and GitLab CI/CD.
• PostgreSQL, database transactions and batch processing.
• MQTT and messaging platforms such as Solace and IBM MQ.
• Added advantage: GCC or other regulated cloud experience, AFC or mission-critical systems, Dynatrace, cloud security (least privilege, encryption, secrets management, secure APIs, vulnerability scanning), and AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code.
