Senior IT Consultant – Data Platform

About the role

The Senior IT Consultant (Data Platform) will design, engineer, implement and continuously improve the university’s data platform. This hands‑on role combines delivery, operations and close collaboration with data owners, analysts and AI engineers to turn business and education needs into reliable data products.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and evolve scalable cloud, hybrid or on‑premises data lakes, warehouses and lakehouses for structured, semi‑structured and unstructured data.
• Develop and maintain production‑grade batch, near‑real‑time, streaming and change‑data‑capture pipelines, ensuring data freshness, availability and reliability.
• Create and optimise SQL, Python or Spark ETL/ELT transformations, data models and semantic layers for BI, analytics, data science and AI/ML use cases.
• Implement data‑governance, security and quality controls, including classification, access policies, encryption and automated quality checks.
• Own platform operations: monitoring, alerting, incident response, capacity planning, backup/recovery and performance optimisation.
• Establish CI/CD, DevSecOps and engineering standards using Git, infrastructure‑as‑code and automated testing.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in data platform architecture, engineering and operations.
• Strong ability to translate business requirements into practical data solutions.
• Proven collaboration skills with data owners, stewards, analysts, data scientists and security teams.
