Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

Balyasny Asset Management is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support its Asia operations. The role involves advising on regulatory matters, handling corporate governance, and enabling market access across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on investment‑management regulations in Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and other Asian markets.
• Lead general corporate matters in Asia, including entity formation, governance documents and board resolutions.
• Collaborate with business teams on market‑access initiatives such as QFII, JSCC‑cleared products, and power/gas contracts in Japan and Australia.
• Assist in negotiating trading documentation with counterparties and prime brokers to enable trading on Asian exchanges.
• Research, analyse and recommend best‑practice legal approaches.
• Review and interpret international, national and local laws with the Legal Team.
• Provide direct support to the General Counsel and the broader Legal & Compliance Department.
• Respond to legal inquiries from business units and coordinate AML/KYC onboarding for Asia‑based counterparties.

Required profile

• JD and at least 12 years of legal experience.
• Regulatory experience preferred; derivatives or private‑transaction experience a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Professionalism in dealings with internal teams, external partners and regulators.
