Senior Research Engineer I – Computer Science

About the role

The Centre for Smart Platform Infrastructure Research on Integrative Technology (SPIRIT) at Nanyang Technological University is seeking a Senior Research Engineer I to lead AI and NLP research for Smart Nation platforms. The role focuses on designing advanced natural language processing solutions that support video analytics, wireless sensor networks, and other national initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Gather system requirements by defining and analysing system problems.
• Design and implement NLP algorithms and models for semantic analysis, including word embeddings, named‑entity recognition, coreference resolution, parsing, and ontology/knowledge‑graph construction.
• Apply NLP techniques to knowledge and information retrieval, relevancy ranking with spatiotemporal considerations.
• Conduct translational research to scale state‑of‑the‑art solutions for real‑world challenges.
• Document research outcomes and produce scientific reports.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science.
• Research background and experience in AI and NLP.
• Passion for NLP and AI innovations and their applications.
• Strong publication record in relevant fields.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python.
• Proficiency in C/C++.
• Experience with large‑scale text processing and analytics.
• Hands‑on experience developing NLP algorithms and models.
