Senior Research Fellow – Power Electronics (Medium‑Voltage Grid Applications)

About the role

The Energy Research Institute at NTU is seeking a senior researcher to lead the design, development, and testing of medium‑voltage, grid‑connected power‑electronics converters. The role supports translational research across the energy value chain, focusing on high‑power converter systems for sustainable urban energy solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop high‑voltage, high‑power converter topologies (DC‑DC, AC‑DC, DC‑AC) for grid‑connected applications.
• Perform detailed modeling and simulation to validate designs, optimise performance, and assess fault tolerance.
• Create multilayer PCB layouts ensuring signal integrity, power integrity, thermal management and EMI compliance.
• Develop and execute test plans and laboratory setups to evaluate hardware functionality and reliability under normal and fault conditions.
• Collaborate with control engineers and system integrators to embed real‑time control algorithms and maintain robust prototype test benches.
• Design protection and fault‑management schemes to meet grid standards and enhance system safety.
• Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, simulation models, test reports, BOMs and PCB files.
• Generate intellectual property and publish findings in high‑impact journals and conferences.

Required profile

• PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics or a closely related field.
• 3–5 years of hands‑on experience in designing, prototyping, testing and validating high‑power converter systems.
• Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and manage project deliverables.
