Senior Research Fellow – Single-Photon LiDAR

About the role

The Centre for Disruptive Photonic Technologies at Nanyang Technological University seeks a Senior Research Fellow to lead the development of single‑photon LiDAR systems. You will integrate in‑house single‑photon detectors, optimise optical and timing subsystems, and advance prototypes toward field deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, assemble and align a single‑photon‑enabled scanning microscope.
• Integrate detector modules, synchronization electronics and time‑tagging workflows.
• Develop imaging protocols, benchmark sensitivity, contrast, resolution and acquisition strategies on calibrated samples.
• Perform optical and system simulations, and create data acquisition, reconstruction and visualisation pipelines.
• Maintain advanced microscopy and spectroscopy equipment in compliance with safety protocols.
• Analyse data, prepare scientific publications and present findings at international conferences.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners on joint research projects and technology development.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or Doctorate in Physics, Optical/Photonic Engineering, Information Science or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated research experience with optical/laser setups and scanning systems (e.g., galvo).
• Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed international journals.
