Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack

About the role

Illumina is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a cross-functional team that builds and maintains advanced visualization tools for high-throughput data. The tools help engineers and scientists explore, debug and interpret high-dimensional and complex data, and the role contributes to new platform development as well as to maintaining and improving software used by internal teams and field users.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high-performance visualization tools for large-scale, high-dimensional data
• Contribute to the architecture and implementation of new visualization features and workflows
• Maintain and improve existing visualization applications for reliability, performance and usability
• Work with scientists, engineers and other stakeholders to turn complex data into intuitive visual representations
• Diagnose and fix performance, scalability and usability issues in production software
• Write clear, maintainable, well-tested code following software engineering best practices
• Develop and enhance automated integration systems, test frameworks and unit tests

Required profile

• BS/MS in Computer Science, EE, Bioinformatics or a related field
• 5+ years of professional software development experience
• Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and to self-manage while managing interdisciplinary relationships
• Proven verbal and written communication skills

Required skills

• Front-end: Angular, React, TypeScript, WebGL, WebAssembly, CSS
• Back-end microservices (e.g. Python, C#)
• Desktop and web app development (e.g. Electron)
• Source control (e.g. Git, SVN)
• Building AI-driven interfaces that turn model outputs into actionable UI components and visualizations
• AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor

Desired: Python and its visualization libraries, experience with scientific, bioinformatics or high-throughput data, optimization of visualization pipelines for large or streaming datasets, exposure to legacy or widely deployed software, and experience working with users in development and field environments.
