Site Reliability Engineer – Global System Services

About the role

ByteDance is looking for a self‑motivated Site Reliability Engineer to join its Global System Service team. You will help design, operate, and improve the core infrastructure that powers ByteDance’s data centers outside of China.

Key responsibilities

• Manage large‑scale Linux host fleets across non‑China data centers, handling OS lifecycle, configuration standardisation and health monitoring.
• Own reliability of foundational services such as DNS, NTP, DHCP, NAT, APT repositories and Kerberos authentication.
• Design and implement highly available, fault‑tolerant deployment architectures with disaster‑recovery capabilities.
• Define SLOs, lead incident response, conduct root‑cause analysis and drive post‑mortem improvements.
• Collaborate with network, security and application teams to meet evolving global business demands.
• Identify automation opportunities and build tooling to reduce manual toil.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Proven experience with large‑scale Linux host management and fleet operations.
• Hands‑on knowledge of DNS (BIND/PowerDNS), NTP, DHCP, NAT, APT repository management and Kerberos.
• Familiarity with SRE principles, SLO/SLI definition and blameless post‑mortems.
• Understanding of high‑availability design patterns and disaster‑recovery strategies.
