Software Engineer - Manufacturing Data Platform

About the role

Applied Materials is developing a manufacturing data and applications platform to support digitalization and automation across the organization. The role starts with building the foundational data layer (databases, pipelines and integrations) and grows into business logic, backend services and user-facing applications. It suits someone with experience delivering production web apps to internal users, comfortable near operations and open to a full-stack path covering data engineering, backend/API and front-end development. The work location is Upper Changi.

Key responsibilities

• Data foundations: design a relational data model for hierarchical manufacturing data, build ingestion and transformation processes, and set up integrations with manufacturing applications, including connectors, schema change handling, integrity checks, alerting and automated recovery.
• Backend and business logic: build backend services implementing core business logic, collaborate on prototyping designs, build and maintain APIs, create reusable components, and ensure security, performance, scalability and audit trails.
• Front-end: build user-facing applications on a modern manufacturing app platform, integrate them with backends and data sources, and refine UI/UX with manufacturing users.
• Quality and reliability: implement data quality checks, resilience mechanisms (retries, fallbacks, exception logging), monitor performance and availability, and produce QA summaries for Go Live approval.
• Documentation: maintain technical documentation, diagrams and API specs, take part in code reviews, and write operational guides and runbooks.

Required profile

• Track record of building and maintaining in-house, multi-user web applications for internal stakeholders.
• Solid SQL skills and experience designing or maintaining relational databases.
• Experience developing APIs or backend services and integrating with external systems in production.
• UI/UX fundamentals and good engineering hygiene (testing, Git, CI/CD).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, communicate clearly, and handle ambiguous requirements in iterative increments.
