Software Engineer – Simulation

About the role

Intrinsic, Google’s AI robotics group, is looking for a Software Engineer specialized in simulation. You will help build high‑fidelity digital twins of industrial robots using Gazebo and ROS, ensuring that virtual environments accurately reflect real‑world physics and hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain simulation assets and environments with Gazebo and ROS.
• Implement software features that bridge simulated behavior and physical robot performance.
• Create and run automated validation tests for robotic software in simulation.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to optimise simulation infrastructure for speed and scalability.
• Document technical workflows and contribute to the internal knowledge base.
• Maintain and contribute to open‑source robotics projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience in robotics software development or simulation.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Experience with the Gazebo simulator and ROS.
• Familiarity with physics engines such as Dart, Bullet, ODE, or MuJoCo.
• Knowledge of USD, SDF, and URDF formats.
• Understanding of Entity‑Component‑System (ECS) architecture.
• Basic 3D modeling or computer graphics knowledge.
• Experience with sensor data or synthetic data generation.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., GCP) for automated testing.
• Version control and CI/CD pipeline experience.
