Software Engineer - Spend

About the role

Wise is hiring a Software Engineer for its Spend Squad, which builds products that let customers spend money anywhere in the world. The engineer ships the direct customer touch points on one of Wise's most impactful and high-growth products, working on the core card flow and helping onboard users to cards.

Key responsibilities

• Build seamless customer experiences behind the scenes of the card product, including onboarding and first use.
• Help build efficient tooling for the Operations team to support global expansion.
• Create clear, consistent interfaces and documentation, keeping performance and maintainability in mind.
• Identify and solve important customer problems and coordinate with other teams on cross-cutting technical issues.
• Improve the customer experience and empower internal teams such as Operations, Customer Support and Finance.
• Plan work to tackle technical debt carefully, weighing additional development cost.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of hands-on experience developing backend-driven applications.
• Strong product mindset, prioritising customers and making data-driven decisions.
• Good communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Enjoys writing testable code and follows best coding practices, code reviews and open feedback.
• Mentors junior and mid-level developers.

Required skills

• Solid Java 17+ and Spring framework.
• Front-end experience with a JavaScript framework such as React.
• Relational databases, query optimisation and schema design.
• Continuous delivery mindset.
• Nice to have: financial systems experience, PostgreSQL, event-driven architecture and Groovy.

What we offer

• Salary of 9,350 to 12,400 SGD base per month plus RSUs.
