Staff Mechanical Engineer, Debug

About the role

As a Mechanical Engineer you will join a small, close‑knit team of mosquito biologists, software engineers and automation experts to develop innovative solutions that reduce mosquito‑borne diseases. You will lead research and development across multiple processes and products, driving the design, development, deployment and continuous improvement of Debug technology.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build automated systems using electromechanical components such as servo systems, pneumatics, sensors and drive components.
• Oversee the full product lifecycle from requirement definition and prototype validation to launch of production‑ready systems.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison for science, software and operations teams to solve foundational engineering challenges.
• Collaborate with real‑world users to iterate designs and validate prototypes against specifications.
• Investigate and resolve performance issues in production equipment.
• Perform engineering calculations and layout work, employing CAD, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design for Automation (DFA) tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 8 years of experience designing and testing electro‑mechanical, pneumatic and fluid systems.
• Proven experience with prototyping tools, industrial or lab automation, and CAD software such as SolidWorks.
• Experience leading high‑performance hardware teams and managing vendors, costs and strategy.
• Demonstrated ability to iterate prototypes through the full development lifecycle and manage technical initiatives from concept to scale.
• Knowledge of robotics, industrial pneumatics, sensors, biotech equipment and relevant standards.
