Staff Nurse, NurseFirst (Tele-Triage) - Contract until 31 Aug 2027

About the role

NurseFirst provides clinical telephone triage and nursing advice to community residents, and this role assesses callers with acute and non-acute medical concerns and directs them to appropriate care settings. It supports early intervention, improves access to care and strengthens tele-triage services. Senior Staff Nurses also guide junior nurses. The role involves three rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

Key responsibilities

• Assess callers' medical history and complaints through structured telephone assessment and direct them to the right care site or call centre.
• Use clinical reasoning and decision-support systems to identify risks, prioritise urgency and follow protocols and escalation pathways.
• Give clear, evidence-based clinical advice and first-aid guidance, document every call and follow up in time.
• Transfer clinical information smoothly between NurseFirst and receiving providers.
• Record nursing assessments in IT systems, communicate critical situations using SBAR, and take part in audits and service improvement.
• Follow hospital guidelines, report clinical incidents, and uphold patient privacy and ethics.
• Senior Staff Nurses mentor junior nurses, lead or support in-service education and improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Diploma in Nursing from a Singapore Nursing Board-approved institution; Advanced Diploma or degree preferred for Senior Staff Nurse.
• BCLS + AED certification and a recognised Telephone Triage course.
• Valid Registered Nurse practicing license with the Singapore Nursing Board.
• Preferably 2-5 years of emergency department triage experience and 1-2 years handling voice, email, video and chat.
• Experience in emergency or acute care settings and ability to guide junior nurses.

Required skills

• Strong clinical judgement and problem-solving under pressure.
• Effective telephone communication and good interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple IT systems and digital platforms.
• Multilingual proficiency is an advantage.
