Staff / Principal Software Engineer – Consulting Practice

About the role

GovTech’s Consulting Practice is looking for a Staff / Principal Software Engineer to lead high‑impact modernisation projects for Singapore government agencies. You will work directly with agency teams, shaping solution design from problem definition to delivery and building lasting engineering capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Advise and guide client agencies through problem definition, solution design and implementation for both greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Address complex, national‑scale challenges, driving innovation that improves efficiency across government.
• Champion engineering excellence by influencing standards and best practices within GovTech and the wider public sector.
• Act as lead architect, ensuring smooth hand‑over from recommendations to implementation and owning outcomes.
• Establish and mentor permanent engineering teams within agencies, transferring technical expertise.
• Develop standardised approaches for assessments, discovery and solution design based on GovTech and industry best practices.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large‑scale software engineering initiatives in a public‑sector or consulting environment.
• Strong ability to mentor and up‑skill engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills to influence senior stakeholders and agency partners.
• Passion for building technology that serves the public good.
