Underwriter - Sustainable Energy & Power

About the role

Markel is growing its team in the Sustainable Energy and Power line of business, which sits within the Renewable Energy part of the Marine & Energy division of its Wholesale book. The role is based in Singapore and APAC, working with the line manager and the Director for Energy and Power to build a long-term, profitable book of business.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the underwriting strategy and business plan for the Singapore market and APAC region.
• Build strong relationships with new and existing brokers.
• Market the products, including international travel and representing Markel at meetings, conferences and other events.
• Apply sound underwriting judgement, monitoring performance against plan and adjusting the approach as needed.
• Apply risk management practices, including aggregation management, governance controls and exposure monitoring within plan limits.
• Provide underwriting support to overseas offices and handle referral approvals.
• Support continuous development of associates and champion their growth.
• Monitor and report on portfolio performance and seek continuous improvements in processes and data management.
• Prioritise customer experience with fast responses to all stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience in the renewable energy and/or power insurance market, with a technical grasp of current risk factors and underwriting concerns.
• Detailed understanding of the business line and the global insurance marketplace.
• Strong numerical and analytical ability and excellent communication skills.
• Willingness to develop a network of Singapore and international distribution channels.
• Team player who is proactive, enthusiastic and strives for excellence.
