Underwriting Manager

About the role

Great Eastern is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead new‑business underwriting across life, accident & health, disability income and long‑term care products. You will act as the primary liaison between the New Business Underwriting (NBU) team and distribution channels, ensuring high‑quality risk assessment and seamless support for financial planners.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite new applications for life, accident & health, disability income and long‑term care proposals.
• Countersign and mentor junior underwriters, providing guidance and feedback.
• Deliver underwriting advice to financial planners via e‑booking, email, phone and NBU counter.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with distribution channels and ensure departmental KPIs are met.
• Conduct underwriting training for distribution partners.
• Lead project initiatives such as reviewing underwriting guidelines and streamlining work processes.
• Identify and mitigate business and regulatory compliance risks.
• Stay informed on industry trends, emerging threats and new technologies to enhance risk management.

Required profile

• Degree with at least 5 years of underwriting experience in life, accident or health risk, or equivalent certification/experience.
• Strong analytical abilities and capacity to work under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• High integrity, accountability and a proactive attitude toward continuous improvement.
