Vice President, Tax

About the role

Barclays is recruiting a Vice President, Tax, based in Singapore. This is a pivotal regional role overseeing tax governance, risk management, compliance and advisory across Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and Taiwan. The incumbent identifies, assesses and mitigates tax risks from business operations, investments and complex transactions, and advises business leaders so their decisions align with commercial objectives and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage tax risks arising from the bank's business activities, investments, products, transactions and legal entity structures, and develop tax risk mitigation strategies
• Analyse complex tax issues, transactions and regulatory developments to support tax planning, compliance, restructurings, acquisitions, funding arrangements, booking models and new products
• Advise on direct, indirect and international tax matters, including corporate income tax, withholding tax, GST/VAT, transfer pricing, permanent establishment, treaty entitlement, stamp duties, financial transaction taxes and tax reporting
• Liaise with tax authorities, resolve legacy tax risks and agree compliance positions
• Prepare or review tax returns, tax accounting calculations and disclosures for group forecasting, reporting and stress testing
• Design and operate tax process controls and advise stakeholders, including functional leadership and senior management

Required profile

• Experience leading tax risk management and providing tax advisory support to Institutional Financial Services and Private Banking
• Ability to plan resources, budgets and policies, manage processes and improve them continuously
• Leadership behaviours: listen authentically, energise and inspire, align across the enterprise and develop others
• Subject-matter expertise, guiding technical direction and coaching less experienced specialists
• Legal right to work in the role; visa sponsorship must be declared in the application
