Workplace Engineer – School Infrastructure

About the role

The Workplace Engineer will join the School Infrastructure team within the Digital Workspace for Schools Branch of the Ministry of Education. Reporting to the Technical Service Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability and security of ICT services that support school operations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage service, incident, problem and disaster recovery processes for school ICT services.
• Oversee contractors to ensure SLA compliance and delivery of agreed outcomes.
• Continuously monitor, analyse and improve infrastructure performance to meet current and future school needs.
• Design, implement and operate moderate‑scale infrastructure solutions with minimal supervision.
• Develop modular automation and infrastructure‑as‑code scripts for deployments and changes.
• Implement robust monitoring, alerting and observability frameworks and use data analytics for troubleshooting.
• Apply Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices such as error budgets, SLI/SLO definitions and toil reduction.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing ICT services in an educational or public‑sector environment.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of governance, security policies and technical architecture standards.
