Assistant Manager, Freight Forwarding (Air & Ocean)

About the role

We are seeking a highly organized Assistant Manager to lead a team of four operations specialists in both air and ocean freight forwarding. This junior‑manager position blends hands‑on operational execution with a strong focus on customer service excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and organise the operations team to ensure high performance, accurate system updates and smooth daily workflows.
• Balance workloads, act as first escalation point for complex issues and key client concerns, and resolve problems professionally.
• Assist in setting team KPIs and provide constructive feedback for growth.
• Oversee end‑to‑end air and ocean shipments, including documentation, customs clearance and local delivery.
• Maintain relationships with carriers, airlines, co‑loaders and overseas agents to secure competitive solutions.
• Ensure compliance with local customs regulations, international trade laws and internal SOPs.
• Drive accuracy in data entry, billing, invoicing and cost management within the freight management system.
• Review and improve operational workflows to boost efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Required profile

• 5–7 years of hands‑on freight forwarding experience, primarily in ocean freight; air freight knowledge preferred.
• Proven team‑lead or senior‑executive experience with a track record of mentoring junior staff.
• Strong organisational and time‑management abilities, detail‑oriented and able to work under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for internal team dynamics and external vendor relations.
