About the role
The Assistant Manager – Procurement (Defence) will develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with the organisation’s business objectives and ESG guidelines. This role oversees forecasting, material planning, supplier selection and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure efficient, sustainable procurement operations.
Key responsibilities
- Develop procurement implementation plans, including strategic sustainable sourcing, to support green procurement objectives.
- Manage working‑level relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors in accordance with procurement guidelines.
- Implement a procurement technology roadmap to automate routine processes while adhering to ESG policies.
- Design supplier selection processes and evaluation criteria for supply‑chain operations.
- Guide the preparation, review and approval of tenders in line with ESG standards.
- Recommend inventory requirements by engaging key users and clients.
- Review inventory planning, tracking, stock movement scheduling and replenishment to maintain optimal holdings.
- Evaluate supplier performance on quality, on‑time delivery and supply risk.
- Address customer dissatisfaction and support supply‑chain performance reviews.
- Manage customer relationship programmes based on sustainable procurement policies.
- Implement technology and data‑analytics plans to generate performance insights for strategic decisions.
- Assess new technologies and market trends to improve productivity and innovation.
- Provide on‑the‑job training and performance evaluations for staff against KPIs.
- Support risk‑management activities related to procurement.
Required profile
- Proven experience in procurement, preferably within the defence sector.
- Strong understanding of ESG and sustainable sourcing principles.
- Ability to develop and implement procurement strategies and technology roadmaps.
- Experience managing supplier relationships and evaluating performance.
- Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Leadership experience coordinating cross‑functional teams and training staff.
