Coating Technician

About the role

The Coating Technician is responsible for preparing and applying protective and functional coatings to a variety of components in a manufacturing environment. This role combines hands‑on equipment operation with technical program development to ensure high‑quality surface finishes.

Key responsibilities

• Select and prepare coating powders according to formulas and create spray recipes.
• Program, test, and control robotic spray systems where applicable.
• Operate degreasing and blasting equipment to clean parts before coating.
• Mask parts using fixtures, rubber, tape, Tafa, antibond or metal masks.
• Set up and run manual, semi‑automatic, or robotic spray systems and adjust bake/cure oven parameters.
• Remove masking, clean overspray, and perform final part washing.
• Inspect surfaces visually and with micrometers or calipers for compliance.
• Maintain and clean spray equipment, change carbon column/dust collector filters, and complete daily 5S and PM checklists.
• Participate in audits, new product introductions, and continuous‑improvement activities.
• Cross‑train on related processes and support production as needed.

Required profile

• Technical diploma (NITEC) in Precision Machining, Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.
• Experience with lifting equipment, degreasers, surface‑preparation tools, D‑gun cubicles, plasma spray, HVOF systems, industrial robots and gas panels.
• Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments and hand tools.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of company processes, OEM manuals, MSDS labels and production management software.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb and stand or sit for extended periods.
