Industrial Designer – Robotics

About the role

Our client is a Singapore‑based applied R&D lab developing an open‑source humanoid robot platform and its full software stack. The Industrial Designer will own the robot’s form language, physical identity and the broader hardware family, turning vision into manufacturable parts.

Key responsibilities

• Own industrial design across the hardware family – form, proportion, ergonomics and CMF – from concept to production‑ready enclosures and structural aesthetics.
• Translate mechanical and electrical constraints into clean, intentional designs that support engineering requirements.
• Rapidly prototype using foam, 3D printing and CNC‑machined parts, iterating directly on real hardware.
• Lead the CMF specification process, including material selection, surface‑finish standards, colour systems and supplier engagement.
• Conduct DFM/DFA reviews, manage tolerance stack‑ups, fastening, serviceability and assembly sequencing together with mechanical engineers.
• Design human‑facing details such as grips, handles, access panels, indicators and other touch points.
• Shape packaging, unboxing experience and user‑facing documentation for hardware kits and development units.
• Maintain design consistency as the hardware product family expands.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience shipping physical products (consumer electronics, robotics, medical devices or similarly complex hardware).
• Strong portfolio of shipped complex electromechanical hardware.
• Deep understanding of industrial design fundamentals: form, proportion, ergonomics and CMF.
• Proven ability to work closely with mechanical engineers and contract manufacturers in a fast, iterative environment.
• Hands‑on experience moving from sketch to prototype to production without extensive support teams.

Required skills

• 3D modeling/surfacing tools such as Alias, Rhino or SolidWorks.
• Rendering software like KeyShot.
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) techniques.
• Knowledge of injection molding, sheet metal, die casting and surface‑finishing processes.
• Rapid prototyping skills – foam modelling, 3D printing and CNC machining.
• Material selection and CMF specification expertise.
