Instrument Technician Assistant – Sterile Processing

About the role

The Instrument Technician Assistant supports the sterile processing department by ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are safely decontaminated, inspected, packaged, sterilized and delivered to operating theatres and clinical areas. This role is essential for maintaining infection control standards in a busy hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, sort, decontaminate, inspect, pack, sterilize, store and distribute surgical instruments and consumables.
• Load and operate washer‑disinfectors, dryers, ultrasonic washers and sterilizers.
• Perform and evaluate sterilizer test indicators and maintain equipment logs.
• Conduct inventory of sterile linen and surgical consumables, issuing supplies to all ORs.
• Clean and maintain the TSSU storage area and decontamination zone daily.
• Report defective equipment, coordinate repairs or replacements, and notify the in‑charge of any issues.
• Communicate critical information and handover details to colleagues and supervisors.
• Participate in clinical and service quality activities as required.

Required profile

• ITE in Engineering, relevant technical credentials or WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare Support (Sterilisation Services).
• Preferable experience as an Instrument Technical Assistant or in a CSSD/TSSU environment.
• Good interpersonal and supervisory skills.
• Proficient written English and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
