Legal Counsel

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal, compliance and maritime claim support within our Administration department. Reporting to the Head of Administration, the role ensures the smooth operation of legal affairs, corporate governance and risk management for the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the primary legal advisor on contract, maritime, employment and other legal matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts with clients, vendors and partners, maintaining accurate records.
• Manage litigation and disputes, coordinating with external counsel to protect company interests.
• Monitor regulatory compliance, implement internal controls and initiate corrective actions when needed.
• Promote ethical business practices and corporate governance, overseeing ethics compliance programs.
• Handle maritime claim processes, communicating with insurers and negotiating settlements on behalf of ship owners.
• Identify legal risks, advise on risk mitigation and support business strategy.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and prepare reports for agencies and board members.
• Perform corporate secretary duties in accordance with the Companies Act and related legislation.
• Provide additional administrative support as required.

Required profile

• Licensed attorney with a Bachelor’s degree, postgraduate diploma or professional law qualification.
• Minimum five years of relevant experience in private practice or as in‑house counsel.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
