Mechanical Design Engineer – Automation Equipment (Singapore)

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of non‑standard automated equipment. The role covers the full product lifecycle from concept through to commissioning, primarily for customized machinery used in automation environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of automated equipment, including architecture, structures, mechanisms and overall system layout.
• Create 3D models, simulations, detailed 2D/3D CAD drawings and mechanical design solutions.
• Design tooling, fixtures and handling mechanisms for custom automation systems.
• Select and integrate motors, pneumatic and linear motion components, developing complete motion concepts.
• Prepare and maintain engineering documentation such as drawings, BOMs, technical specifications and design standards.
• Work with suppliers and the supply‑chain team to source custom parts and support fabrication.
• Support equipment assembly, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and debugging.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams throughout the equipment development cycle.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on mechanical design experience, preferably in automation or customized machinery.
• Proven ability to manage complex mechanical design projects from concept to implementation.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Willingness to travel internationally for training and project activities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software (mechanical modelling and detailed drawing).
• Strong knowledge of machining, mechanical assembly and mechanism design.
• Understanding of structural strength and stiffness analysis.
• Experience selecting motors, pneumatic components and linear motion devices.
• Ability to create Bills of Materials and technical documentation.
