Mechanical Engineer II

About the role

As a Mechanical Engineer II at Thermo Fisher Scientific you will work on sophisticated scientific instruments and laboratory equipment, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to develop and optimise mechanical systems and components.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise mechanical systems for scientific instruments and laboratory equipment.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure manufacturability, reliability and compliance with quality standards.
• Utilise advanced 3D CAD tools to create detailed models and drawings from concept through production.
• Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analyses and finite‑element analysis to validate designs.
• Develop test plans, conduct verification and validation activities, and document results.
• Support product innovation while adhering to regulatory requirements (ISO, UL, CE, FDA).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
• At least 5 years of mechanical design experience in a technical product development environment.
• Relevant professional certifications are a plus.
• Strong project‑management and documentation skills.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical and communication abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, CREO or NX.
• Experience with PLM/PDM systems.
• Solid knowledge of GD&T, DFM/DFA principles and manufacturing processes.
• Capability to perform mechanical design analysis, FEA and tolerance stack‑up calculations.
• Design experience with metals, plastics and composite materials.
• Familiarity with quality systems and regulatory standards (ISO, UL, CE, FDA).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
