Product Mechanical Designer Engineer

About the role

The Product Mechanical Designer Engineer creates robust, manufacturable mechanical solutions for HP consumer and commercial products, guiding designs from concept through production. The role works closely with industrial design, electrical, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to meet cost, schedule, reliability, and user‑experience goals.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and subsystems, including plastics, sheet metal, and electro‑mechanical assemblies.
• Translate industrial design concepts into detailed 3D CAD models, perform tolerance analysis, stack‑up studies, and release engineering drawings with GD&T.
• Apply Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, and Reliability principles throughout product development.
• Develop and execute validation and test plans (shock, vibration, thermal, acoustics, reliability) to verify form, fit, and function.
• Conduct feasibility studies, design margin analysis, prototype evaluations, and root‑cause analysis of design or production issues.
• Collaborate with suppliers, tooling teams, and manufacturing to support prototype builds, tooling reviews, and product qualification.
• Manage engineering changes, documentation, and configuration control across the product lifecycle.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Typically 2–4 years of product mechanical design experience, preferably in consumer or electronics products; fresh graduates with strong fundamentals are also encouraged.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as Creo/ProEngineer.
• Strong ability to create and interpret 2D engineering drawings with GD&T.
• Knowledge of sheet metal and plastic part design, tooling, and manufacturing processes.
• Solid fundamentals in tolerance analysis and stack‑up studies.
• Experience applying DFM, DFA, and DFR principles.
• Capability to develop validation and test plans for mechanical performance.
• Root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action skills.
• Engineering change management (DCN/ECR) and configuration control experience.
