Research Assistant – AI for Mathematics Learning

About the role

The National Institute of Education seeks a Research Assistant for a 12‑month renewable contract in the Office for Research. The role supports the AI4SoL project, which investigates how large language models can enhance dialogic practice in mathematics word‑problem solving.

Key responsibilities

• Perform quantitative data management tasks, including data entry, cleaning, dataset preparation, and statistical analysis.
• Support measurement and assessment validation processes, such as instrument pilot testing and reliability data entry.
• Assist in formatting, proofreading, and organizing primary mathematics learning materials and research tools.
• Conduct literature searches, locate academic sources, and maintain citation databases.
• Support on‑site data collection in schools, including survey distribution and test administration.
• Assist with research administration, project documentation, and stakeholder communication.
• Carry out other research‑related administrative duties as assigned by the Principal Investigators.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Learning Sciences, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
• Prior experience teaching Primary Mathematics (advantageous).

Required skills

• Proficiency with quantitative analysis tools such as SPSS, R, and Excel.
• Familiarity with qualitative software like NVivo.
• Experience in data cleaning, dataset management, and handling quantitative survey or test data.
• Solid foundation in basic statistical concepts and data visualization.
