Research Scientist – Reasoning

About the role

Google DeepMind is seeking a Research Scientist to advance reasoning capabilities within its AI portfolio. You will design, prototype, and evaluate novel algorithms that push the limits of Reinforcement Learning (RL) and Large Language Models (LLM) for real‑world impact.

Key responsibilities

• Propose and develop new RL algorithms and scaling techniques to improve model performance and inference efficiency.
• Design and run large‑scale experiments, from concept through deployment, on cutting‑edge AI infrastructure.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and external research partners to integrate findings into products and research publications.
• Publish first‑author papers in top conferences or journals and contribute to the broader scientific community.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience leading a research agenda in AI.
• Demonstrated experience in Reinforcement Learning, reasoning, and Large Language Models.
• Track record of first‑author publications in peer‑reviewed venues.
