Senior Counsellor – Community Mental Health

About the role

The Senior Counsellor joins the Community Intervention Team (COMIT) within the Community Mental Health Department. You will provide assessment, counselling, psychosocial therapy and case management for adults with mental health conditions or dementia, as well as support for their caregivers.

Key responsibilities

• Independently manage highly complex or high‑risk cases, delivering counselling, therapy and comprehensive care plans.
• Coordinate referrals, maintain accurate case information and serve as a clinical resource for escalated cases.
• Represent COMIT in multidisciplinary case conferences with hospitals, GPs, polyclinics and community partners.
• Document outcomes, monitor service quality and ensure timely case notes and data reporting.
• Provide clinical supervision, training and performance appraisal for counsellors, interns and volunteers.
• Lead development and delivery of training sessions, advocacy initiatives and networking with community stakeholders.
• Drive research projects, oversee data collection and translate findings into recommendations for service improvement.

Required profile

• Professional experience in community mental health counselling and case management.
• Proven ability to manage complex or high‑risk cases independently.
• Experience supervising and training junior counselling staff.
• Strong collaboration skills with healthcare providers and community organisations.
• Commitment to advocacy for vulnerable and marginalised populations.
