Senior Legal Counsel – Data Privacy

About the role

Tencent is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to lead data‑privacy initiatives across its global businesses. You will provide expert legal advice, ensure compliance with international privacy regulations, and support product teams throughout the lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day data‑privacy legal advice to Tencent’s worldwide operations.
• Advise on compliance with global privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, PDPO/PDPA, and data‑breach rules.
• Design, develop, and implement a comprehensive privacy‑compliance program.
• Manage and coordinate outside counsel for privacy‑related projects.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and administer legal and commercial documentation.
• Monitor emerging privacy legislation and keep stakeholders informed of relevant changes.

Required profile

• Common‑law qualified lawyer with at least 4 years post‑qualification experience (law firm or in‑house).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross‑functional teams.
• CIPP/E and/or CIPM certification preferred (not mandatory).
• Proven experience handling data‑privacy issues for international businesses.
• Experience designing and implementing global privacy‑compliance programs is a plus.
• Strong written and spoken English and Mandarin.
