About the role

At Epiq AI Labs you will join a fast‑moving, startup‑like team building the next‑generation AI platform for corporate legal departments and global law firms. As a Backend Software Engineer you will own and operate the core services that power asynchronous processing, data pipelines, and security layers of the platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and operate backend services and APIs that support the AI‑driven legal platform.
• Build and maintain message‑queue‑based asynchronous processing, including retry, idempotency, dead‑letter handling and failure recovery.
• Develop data pipelines to ingest, parse, store and index large volumes of legal documents.
• Implement authentication and authorization using OAuth2, OIDC and SAML with role‑based access control for multi‑tenant environments.
• Design, optimize and migrate PostgreSQL schemas and queries in live production traffic.
• Integrate search and vector‑storage components to enable advanced knowledge retrieval.
• Ensure scalability, reliability and observability of services through instrumentation and graceful degradation strategies.

Required profile

• Strong background in building load‑bearing backend systems.
• Comfortable working in a highly autonomous, collaborative and fast‑paced environment.
• Ability to make data‑model and service‑boundary decisions together with senior engineers.
