Software Engineer – Backend (User Squad)

About the role

As a Software Engineer in the User Squad at Sephora SEA, you will design and develop backend services that power a personalized ecommerce experience for 1.4 million monthly active users across Southeast Asia and Oceania. You will work on high‑visibility projects that directly influence customer lifetime value and retention.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain robust backend services using Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
• Build clean, scalable distributed architectures and micro‑services.
• Develop event‑driven integrations with Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Deliver reliable user and loyalty experiences across multiple countries.
• Personalize and localize features for diverse markets.
• Maintain high code quality and productivity using AI‑assisted development tools.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional experience building production‑grade backend applications.
• Strong proficiency with relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and non‑relational (MongoDB) databases.
• Solid understanding of the Java ecosystem (Hibernate, JDBC, Maven, Gradle).
• Familiarity with event streaming (Kafka) or message queuing (RabbitMQ).
• Experience working in cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
• Comfort using AI‑assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code).
