Assistant Production Coordinator – 2‑Year Contract

About the role

The Assistant Production Coordinator will support the production and technical services of the Esplanade, ensuring smooth backstage operations for a world‑class arts centre. This 2‑year fixed‑term position involves liaising with clients, managing schedules, and supervising casual staff.

Key responsibilities

• Act as primary liaison with clients on technical and staffing needs for ancillary functions.
• Interpret technical requirements and input production schedules into the venue management system (EBMS).
• Plan and monitor day‑to‑day backstage operations, including service and maintenance agreements.
• Prepare cost estimates, process invoices and work orders, and verify event expenses.
• Develop production schedules and manpower plans in consultation with Technical Managers.
• Recruit, train and supervise casual stage managers and other contract staff.
• Maintain contacts with production staff, service providers and suppliers.
• Ensure a safe working environment through risk assessments and regular safety inspections.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in stage management, theatre production or equivalent professional experience.
• 2–3 years of experience in stage or production management or as a technician.
• Strong people‑management abilities and teamwork orientation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work irregular hours and perform hands‑on tasks.

• First‑aid and firefighting training (advantageous)
• Operation of professional lighting equipment
• Operation of professional audio equipment
