Associate Equity Analyst (Japanese Speaking)

About the role

Morningstar's Asian equities research group is looking for an Associate Equity Analyst based in Singapore. The role supports equity analysts in building valuation models, writing research reports and handling ad hoc research tasks. It is open to candidates with strong English and a high level of Japanese, and the Associate is expected to progress to an Analyst role performing fundamental analysis within Morningstar's research framework.

Key responsibilities

• Help analysts produce research covering fair value estimates and a thorough examination of each company's competitive position
• Help analysts create charts and tables
• Monitor industry information and share updates with analysts
• Support team activities and group publications, including the quarterly equity outlook
• Assist in covering Japanese companies through webinars and meetings held in Japanese

Required profile

• Strong English and Japanese writing skills
• Bachelor's degree; a CFA designation or progress towards it is considered favourably
• Ability to think critically, independently and with attention to detail
• Logical thinking supported by an awareness of how to interpret and use data
• Team player who accepts and gives constructive feedback, and can make timely decisions under tight deadlines, sometimes with incomplete information
• Interest in long-term, valuation-based stock analysis

Required skills

• Comfortable with financial models and familiar with reading company financial reports
• Knowledge of equity analysis and business valuation techniques
• Working experience as an associate analyst in sell-side, buy-side or independent equity research is an advantage but not required
